Interview with Héctor Choez, Improvement and Productivity Supervisor for Logistics at Bimbo Ecuador

In the fast-paced and demanding world of logistics, efficiency and process optimization aren’t just nice to have—they're essential for staying competitive.

Bimbo Ecuador, a leading multinational in the baking industry, has undergone a significant transformation thanks to the implementation of Drivin. Héctor Choez, Improvement and Productivity Supervisor for Logistics at Bimbo Ecuador, shares the journey and the major changes the company has achieved.

Initial challenges

Before discovering Drivin, Bimbo Ecuador faced several major challenges in managing its transportation operations.

Our transportation management system wasn’t very robust—it was a much more manual process,” recalls Héctor.

While this method worked, it was inefficient and made route optimization nearly impossible. The need for a more advanced and reliable solution became increasingly clear.

The company aimed to boost productivity, enable real-time tracking of operations, improve customer service indicators, and align the transportation area with Bimbo’s broader sustainability goals. These objectives were hard to meet using traditional methods, so finding a more powerful tool became a top priority.

The decision behind implementing Drivin

The decision to implement Drivin came after evaluating several tools on the market. Drivin stood out for its user-friendliness and route optimization capabilities.

The platform is very user-friendly—both for desktop users and drivers in the field,” Héctor explains.

Setting up the platform and uploading customer and vehicle data was simple, which made adoption much easier. Plus, implementation was completed in about a month, demonstrating the efficiency of the solution. That speed allowed Bimbo Ecuador to begin reaping the benefits almost immediately, reinforcing their decision to choose Drivin as their transportation management system.

Drivin’s impact on Bimbo Ecuador

Since implementing Drivin, Bimbo Ecuador has seen significant improvements across its logistics operations. One of the most notable changes was a reduction in the number of vehicles needed for the self-service channel. Vehicle utilization also improved dramatically—from 85% to 95–97%.

“This not only optimizes our resources, but also improves the quality of life for our drivers,” Héctor highlights.

Enhancing quality of life and sustainability

Optimizing logistics operations with Drivin has benefited not only the team, but also helped advance the company’s sustainability goals—proving that technology can support both operational efficiency and employee well-being.

Before, vehicles would return to the plant around six or seven in the evening. Now, they’re back by two or three in the afternoon,” says Héctor.

This reduces work-related stress and lowers emissions by optimizing routes and travel times.

It helps reduce pollution—vehicles go out on time and return within schedule,” Héctor adds.

Customer support that stands out

One of the most valued aspects of Drivin is its 24/7 customer support. The in-app chat feature allows for quick issue resolution and efficient tracking of support tickets.

The proactive support is excellent, and the chat lets us keep a detailed record of all conversations,” says Héctor Choez Ortiz, highlighting the responsiveness and efficiency of the support team.

This approach speeds up issue resolution and provides users with a more transparent and accessible support experience.

Looking ahead

Looking to the future, Bimbo Ecuador plans to fully transition to a dynamic routing model and continue optimizing its logistics processes with Drivin.

We’re looking forward to testing and rolling out optimization exercises using dynamic routing,” Héctor shares.

Through these efforts, Bimbo Ecuador aims to keep improving operational efficiency and enhancing satisfaction among both employees and customers.

Bimbo Ecuador’s experience with Drivin demonstrates the power of advanced technology in logistics management. Process optimization has not only boosted operational efficiency but also improved employee well-being and environmental sustainability.

To finish things off...

Implementing Drivin at Bimbo Ecuador has been a clear success. The platform has enabled significant optimization of logistics operations—reducing the number of vehicles needed and improving vehicle utilization—resulting in a more effective and sustainable transportation management system.

With responsive support and an intuitive interface, the overall experience with Drivin has been overwhelmingly positive. Ultimately, Drivin hasn’t just transformed Bimbo Ecuador’s logistics operations—it has also reinforced the company’s commitment to sustainability and the well-being of its workforce.
