Digital Transformation & Operational Efficiency at Ditransa and Home D

In an increasingly globalized world, efficiency in logistics and transportation become fundamental pillars for companies aiming to maintain their competitiveness.

Ditransa, a company of the Grupo Valorem, with 29 years of experience in the Colombian market, recognized the need to evolve and adapt its operations to the demands of the digital era and challenges of the environment, such as the pandemic.

Ricardo Henao Ferro, Business Unit Manager of Home D, a service aimed at businesses for home delivery services, talks about how he managed to consolidate a model of operational efficiency and customer satisfaction through the implementation of technology provided by Drivin.

About Ditransa

Ditransa was born from the union of a group of entrepreneurs in Antioquia, Colombia, with the goal of meeting the needs of the industrial sector in transportation and distribution matters. The core of its business lies in transportation, specifically in cargo movement, particularly concerning land logistics.

The company has established a strong presence in managing national transportation, operating in most of the Colombian territory and border crossing. In a new expansion phase, Ditransa has ventured into the realm of “last mile”, scaling its operability to various levels.

This includes providing logistic solutions to companies looking to supply raw materials, as well as those in the consumer goods supply chain, facilitating both importation and distribution to consumption centers and distribution networks.

In this recent stage, the company has broadened its focus towards more extensive distribution, reaching direct deliveries to the homes of end consumers (B2C). This expansion in distribution showcases Ditransa’s evolution in its goal to meet logistic needs on a broader spectrum, from initial supply to final delivery, encompassing a comprehensive logistic experience for its clients and commercial partners.

Birth of Home D

In 2020, responding to the growing boom of e-commerce and home deliveries, Ditransa gestated the idea of Home D. This initiative sought not only to adapt to new market trends, but also to optimize the company's logistical operations.

The birth of Home D marked a significant milestone in the logistical landscape, and a fundamental factor for this achievement was the strategic alliance with Drivin. This collaboration not only powered their vision but also catalyzed its operationalization.

"Home D was born with technology. Choosing Drivin as our technological ally was crucial. They helped us see operations from a completely new perspective," commented Ricardo Henao, Business Unit Manager of Home D.

Thanks to the effective integration and technological support provided by Drivin, Home D was able to accelerate its startup and, impressively, had its operation fully functional in a record time of two weeks.

This alliance proved to be a perfect synergy, where the technological robustness of Drivin complements the experience and logistical infrastructure of Home D, overcoming the initial startup challenges with astounding speed and setting a precedent on how strategic collaborations can accelerate the launch and execute of logistical projects.

Drivin and its Implementation

The implementation of Drivin technology was a turning point for Home D. In just 15 days, the operation was up and running, highlighting the speed and effectiveness of the implementation.

“The Drivin team not only brought the technology, but also shared their industry experience, allowing us to start on the right foot,” Ricardo highlights.

The inherent features of the tool supplied by Drivin played a crucial role in refining multiple operational aspects. It facilitated more precise and advanced management, enabling intelligent routes that optimize delivery efficiency and reduce transit times.

Additionally, this technology led to a notable improvement in communication and access to real-time information, benefiting the internal team in terms of coordination and data-driven decision-making, which enriched the customer experience by offering transparency and real-time updates.

Concrete Benefits

Thanks to this collaboration, Home D has experienced accelerated growth, with ambitious expansion plans to cover more regions of Colombia. As well as that, the company has achieved a significant reduction in paper usage, aligning with Ditransa's sustainability objectives.

Among the most notable benefits, Ricardo highlights:

  • Implementation speed: The implementation of technology in a record timeframe of two weeks was a significant benefit, allowing a swift transition to optimized processes from the outset.
  • Process and work culture optimization: The new tool facilitated the transition to an online information culture, with intelligent routings and sectorizations, drastically reducing the times of manual processes, which usually took 30-40 minutes, to 5-10 minutes.
  • Integration and access to information: With the new technology, all involved integrated to real-time information management, eliminating communication barriers and allowing direct access to information between the operations and customer service teams.
  • Automation and data analysis: Lastly, the operation benefited from automation and the ease of exporting information for analysis, with the implementation of Power BI dashboards a customized visualization and in-depth analysis, eliminating the need for manual data consolidation and calculations.

"The ability to adapt quickly and make informed decisions has been a key differentiator," Henao asserts.

Furthermore, Ricardo Santamaría, Head of Logistic Development of Home D, emphasizes the importance of planning and optimization provided by Drivin, valuing the system's ability to automatically generate optimal distribution proposals, describing it as a crucial added value and the heart of the logistic operation.

He also stressed that every optimized order, every well-planned route, and every successful delivery, represents a step forward towards fulfilling the value promise of Home D and Ditransa to their stakeholders.

On the other hand, Victoria Gómez Acosta, Director of Innovation and Projects, shares her experience with the implementation of Drivin, highlighting that one of the most valuable aspects was the execution of an agile pilot. This not only provided complete accompaniment but also served as intensive training, allowing a smooth transition towards the adoption of Drivin.

It's relevant to mention that Home D had no previous digital infrastructure; therefore, with Drivin, a native digital operation was born.

"This initial integration has been the differentiation that has made our service so valuable," says Gómez.

Final Reflections

The experience of Ditransa and Home D with Drivin illustrates the power of technology to transform logistical operations, offering operational efficiencies and added value to customers.

"Drivin understood our needs and worked hand in hand with us to ensure the success of the implementation," concludes Ricardo Henao.

The closeness, effectiveness, and business understanding on Drivin’s part were highlighted as key factors for the success of this collaboration.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude towards Drivin, especially highlighting the closeness, professionalism, and effectiveness they have shown in our interaction. Also, express my gratitude towards Juan Ángel and the entire Drivin team, whose accessibility and openness have facilitated even the most challenging conversations.

I also appreciate the prompt response and willingness to discuss and explore new ideas, which has been a very positive experience for me. Although it would be ideal to have shorter development times in certain aspects, I value greatly the contribution and understanding of the business that Drivin has brought," Ricardo Henao concludes.
